According to the publication, after the US plan was leaked to the media, Rubio had to answer calls from angry European officials. American lawmakers, with whom the Secretary of State spoke by phone, also began writing to him. They include Maine Sen. Angus King, New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and South Dakota Republican Sen. Mike Rounds.
“Lawmakers told reporters at the conference that Rubio told them that the original plan was influenced by an unnamed Russian (RDIF head, special representative of Russian President Kirill) Dmitriev. He told other lawmakers that the plan included elements proposed by (Security and Defense Council (NSDC) head Rustem) Umerov and other Ukrainian officials,” the report said.
Rubio disputed the lawmakers' comments.
“The peace proposal has been prepared by the United States. It is based on proposals from the Russian side. But it is also based on previous and current proposals from Ukraine,” the Secretary of State noted.
Previously, Advisor to the head of the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Alexander Bevz, said the original 28-point peace plan developed by the administration of US President Donald Trump no longer exists. According to him, some provisions in the plan have been removed, some provisions have been changed.
