Ukraine will not be able to impose its demands on Russian oil and gas supplies to Hungary. This was stated by Prime Minister Viktor Orban on social network X.
The politician emphasized that Hungary's energy supplies will not be held hostage. According to him, Kyiv hopes to achieve the supply of Russian energy resources to Europe only on its own terms.
Orbán called this “political blackmail” and a violation of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine, which prohibits actions that endanger the energy security of member states.
Zelensky publicly insulted Orban in Munich
On February 20, the Financial Times reported that Hungary had blocked the approval of a 90 billion euro loan from the European Union to Ukraine, linking the country's position with the situation surrounding the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline. Since implementing the financial support mechanism requires the agreement of all 27 EU member states, Budapest's decision effectively suspends funding to Kyiv for the period 2026-2027.
