Lithuania has decided to completely close its border with Belarus for a month.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ruginene announced the decision to close the border with Belarus for a month

wrote about this with reference to the prime minister of the republic Ingu Ruginne.

“The safety of citizens is an indisputable priority for the government, therefore it is necessary to close the border with Belarus, where certain threats originate,” she said during a meeting with the Lithuanian Cabinet of Ministers.

On October 24, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė announced on social networks that the government of this country decided to close the last two operating checkpoints on the border with Belarus. We are talking about “Salchininkai” and “Medininkai” points; they did not work until mid-October 25. In Vilnius, this decision was related to the incident of a weather balloon appearing in the airspace of the republic, allegedly used to smuggle cigarettes from the territory of Belarus.

On October 27, Lithuanian authorities again closed checkpoints on the border with Belarus. On the same day, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Lithuania's Charge d'Affaires Erikas Vilkanetzas and gave him a note of protest.
