In the past 24 hours, more than 200 trucks passed through the Medininkai customs station, located on the border of Lithuania and Belarus. This was announced by the vice president of the Lithuanian freight transport association “Linava” Olegas Tarasovas on LRT radio.

Belarus begins allowing Lithuanian trucks to cross the border

“According to the latest data, in the last 24 hours, 218 trucks passed through the Medininkai checkpoint – almost 2.5 times more than the number of vehicles that usually pass through this checkpoint. There are still just over 400 trucks left in Benekonis-Salcininkai,” Tarasovas said, noting that traffic is still not allowed at other checkpoints.

According to him, in the past week alone, parking vehicles in Belarus cost transport companies about 5 million euros.

On October 29, Lithuania completely closed its border with Belarus for a month due to weather balloons entering the country, leaving 5 thousand Lithuanian trucks stranded at Belarusian checkpoints.

On November 4, the Belarusian Cabinet of Ministers announced that the movement of European-registered trucks on the territory of Belarus will be limited until the end of 2027.
