In some regions of Russia, air temperatures are predicted to be lower than normal, with frosts reaching -55°C. Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, told the Interfax agency about this.
Therefore, extreme cold weather, down to -40°C, is forecast in the Volga Federal District. In the North-West Federal District, temperatures are predicted to reach -43°C, in the Urals – up to -40°C. In northern Siberia, temperatures will drop to -51°C, in the southwest – up to -46°C. Vilfand noted that the most severe frosts are expected in the Far East: in the Amur region (-38°C…-44°C), Buryatia (-40°C…-42°C), Khabarovsk Territory (-41°C…-46°C), Magadan region (-46°C…-48°C), Yakutia (down to -55°C).
Previously, there was information that the night of December 24 was the coldest night in Moscow since the beginning of winter. Weather forecaster Tatyana Pozdnykova warned that a noticeable cold spell will begin in Moscow from Tuesday, December 23, the air temperature in the capital will drop to -13°C, in the region – to -15°C.
