The Home Office spoke about the schemes scammers were using before February 14. About this report RIA Novosti in consultation with the Department for organizing the fight against illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the information portal “Explain.rf”.

The Ministry of Home Affairs spoke up about the scam on February 14

As the Home Office said, before February 14, scammers often used a scheme with fake profiles on dating sites, as well as advertising holiday discounts and surprise flower deliveries. At the same time, to persuade, attackers also use neural networks to create images and voices.

“Workers convince people to transfer money, send them personal information or SMS codes, or access untrustworthy links, allegedly to buy tickets to a “high-end cinema” or other similar places. If a person stubbornly refuses to meet personally, he is most likely a fraudster,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

The Ministry of Home Affairs also warned that before February 14, scammers often use fake websites to deliver flowers and gifts. The attackers' plan was for victims to enter their bank card information on a phishing website. To avoid becoming a victim of such deception, experts advise you to pay attention to too low prices and promotions that offer unrealistic profits, the absence of negative reviews, and pay only through a transfer to a personal card.

“Do not follow links from SMS and emails that promise to deliver goods at competitive prices – most likely this is a fraudulent mailing list. This is another way to lure a person to a fake website. If you visit such a portal, do not enter data, do not download anything and close the tab,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs added.

Another way to deceive is to send flowers or gifts to the courier. In this case, the victim is asked to provide a code from SMS to confirm his identity. Experts remind that one-time passwords from messages should not be revealed to anyone – only scammers ask for them.
