Soviet things that the West loves

October 20, 2025
in Society

The Soviet Union collapsed more than 30 years ago, forever changing the fate of millions of people. In its final years, the communist superpower faced severe shortages of consumer goods. Locally produced items and clothing are often distinguished by their beauty and sophistication.

Another thing is goods from Western countries. American jeans such as Levi's, Wrangler or Lee were sold for 150 to 250 Soviet rubles each. If we take the current average salary in Russia as a basis, then one fashion purchase will cost 100-200 thousand modern rubles.

The trend of importing items continued into the 90s. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, traditional Russian clothing and accessories were often ridiculed by society. Some wardrobe items have been associated with poverty.

Now the situation has changed. Familiar items from the Soviet era began to conquer Western markets and were sold under the guise of high-end goods.

Six things from the Soviet Union are being reborn – in the Rambler gallery.
