According to available information, rhesus macaques, transferred from the National Biomedical Center at Tulane University in Louisiana, were infected with several viruses, including hepatitis C and Covid-19, and could therefore be dangerous to humans. The primates weighing about 12 kg appear to be aggressive, so they can only be approached when wearing personal protective equipment.

Local police later said all the monkeys had been killed. The search for the last monkey is currently underway.

On October 18, it was reported that gorillas were discovered at the abandoned Bristol Zoo in England, still living in an enclosure behind glass.

Previously, an escaped diapered monkey attacked an employee of a store in Russia.
