In Yekaterinburg, a young man saved a pensioner who had fallen through the ice on a pond. Channel 4 reports this.

The incident occurred when an elderly man took a shortcut across a frozen pond and fell into the water. The depth is very serious; he couldn't get out on his own. A passing student without hesitation crawled towards him with a ski pole in his hand and pulled the pensioner out of the hole.
The rescued man's daughter called the young man's action a heroic one and thanked him. The student himself does not consider himself a hero – he explains his actions by his experience of hiking and fearlessness. This was his first experience of salvation. The Regional Ministry of Emergency Situations is considering the issue of rewarding a young man for his heroic actions.
