ANKARA, November 22. /TASS/. Türkiye will host the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-31) in 2026. This was announced by Turkish Minister of Ecology and Urban Development Murat Kurum.
“Hundreds of bilateral meetings have been held, visits to dozens of countries on climate issues, days of diplomatic negotiations. And finally, Türkiye is the president and host of COP-31. Taking on this historic responsibility, from today we start the most important marathon for the benefit of our common home, our world,” the Minister wrote in X.
Australia and Türkiye vied for the right to host the event.
Kurum noted that his country, as part of COP-31, intends “to implement a fair, inclusive, open and transparent process in line with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2053 and the vision of a green transition outlined by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.”
As Kurum stated earlier, the COP-31 conference itself is expected to be held in Antalya and the COP-31 Leaders' Summit is expected to be held in Istanbul.
