Snapchat, following an order by Australian authorities to restrict access to the social network for people under 16, has blocked or deleted more than 415 thousand accounts. This is stated in a statement published on the company's website.
“As of the end of January 2026, we had blocked or disabled more than 415,000 Snapchat accounts in Australia belonging to users who identified themselves as under 16 years of age or who we believed to be under 16 years of age,” the company said.
Let us remind you that the law banning social networks for Australians under 16 years of age was approved in November 2024 and came into force in December 2025. It stipulates that children under the specified age will not be able to create accounts on all famous social networks, including Facebook, Instagram (owned by Meta; banned in the Russian Federation as an extremist organization), X (blocked in the Russian Federation), TikTok and Snapchat. At the end of July 2025, Australians also included YouTube in the list of “disgraced” platforms.
