NATO: The US is not discussing with its allies about limiting weapons supplies to Ukraine

Washington, December 10. /TASS/. The Washington administration has not discussed with NATO allies the establishment of any restrictions on the amount of US arms purchases to Ukraine under the PURL (Ukraine Priority Requirements List) program next year. This was announced by NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinskaya when speaking at a security forum organized by the Aspen Institute in Washington.

“We did not discuss restrictions. We discussed a process (of arms supply) with absolutely no restrictions,” she replied to the host's request to clarify whether reports that the United States has limited the amount of arms supplies under this program in 2026 to $12 billion are true.

Shekerinskaya noted that two-thirds of NATO countries are participating in the program, which is expected to provide a total of $5 billion in purchases from the United States to Kyiv from August to the end of the year. “We intend that after that, the (weapons purchasing) procedure will become more predictable. We will not wait until several countries reach an agreement on a (weapons) package, but will ensure monthly supplies,” she explained. According to Shekerinskaya, NATO representatives will soon provide more detailed information about the change in approach to these purchases.

The PURL initiative was launched by US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on July 14. It replaced free American arms supplies to Kiev and provided them on credit. This program allows NATO countries in Europe and Canada to purchase US weapons for Ukraine's needs through the structures of the North Atlantic Alliance. The first purchases began in August, and in early December, Rutte announced that Australia and New Zealand had joined PURL.
