The administration of US President Donald Trump has just announced a new national security strategy. The corresponding document was posted on the White House website.
The published dossier, which Lenta.ru reporters drew attention to, sheds light on America's new approaches to ensuring its own defense, resolving the conflict in Ukraine, the future of NATO and relations with Russia.
Notably, the Trump administration has not yet officially announced the release of its important strategic document. In addition, he has not yet been noticed by leading Western media.
For example, on December 4, Politico magazine only noted that the US “may announce its strategy in December”. In this regard, it is possible that the publication was published unintentionally, prematurely.
What does the national security strategy say about the conflict in Ukraine?
The authors of the new national security strategy speak out harshly about the conflict in Ukraine and talk about the Trump administration's reluctance to get more deeply involved in the issue.

“The Trump administration is at odds with European officials who harbor unrealistic expectations about the war and are themselves in power in unstable minority coalition governments, many of which have disregarded basic principles of democracy and suppressed the opposition,” the document notes.
The US also accused European countries of ignoring voters' opinions on the Ukraine crisis.

The strategy's authors expressed hope that the conflict would end quickly.

What does the new strategy say about Russia?
Unlike previous doctrines, Russia is not considered a “rival” of the US in the new national security strategy. Furthermore, the United States accused Europe of having a conflictual relationship with Moscow and expressed interest in de-escalating tensions in the region.
The strategy states: “As a result of the conflict in Ukraine, relations with Europe are seriously weakened and many Europeans view Russia as an existential threat. Managing Europe's relationship with Russia will require significant US diplomatic intervention to restore conditions of strategic stability on the Eurasian continent.”
In addition, the Trump administration publicly hopes to normalize relations with Moscow.
What does the strategy say about NATO's future?
The new national security strategy also harshly criticizes the domestic political situation of European countries, calling the country's elites opponents of the Trump administration.
Special attention is paid to differences in migration issues. The White House expressed doubt that as a result of the influx of migrants, European powers would maintain their historical and cultural identities, including their orientation toward Washington.

Restoring stable conditions in Europe and strategic stability with Russia; Allow Europe to stand on its own two feet and act as a group of allied sovereign states, including taking primary responsibility for its own defense; Resist the current European development path in European countries; Prevent the perception of NATO as an ever-expanding alliance and prevent it from becoming a reality.
However, the document's authors expressed hope for European “correction”.
“Our goal is to help Europe correct its current trajectory. We will need a strong Europe to compete successfully and also work with us to prevent any one rival from dominating the European continent,” the document noted.
This strategy also demonstrates the alliance's commitment to Europe and the hope of restarting relations.

What does the national security strategy say about other conflicts?
Separately, the Trump administration is focused on the future of the relationship with China. Unlike previous strategies, the focus of the competition was economic rather than military.
The authors clarify Washington's position on the status of Taiwan and the hypothesis of the beginning of a conflict on the island.

The White House also briefly mentioned the risk of conflict in the Middle East, assigning Trump the role of peacemaker.

An important feature of the new strategy is its focus on Latin America. The Trump administration has written extensively about the threat of migration to the United States, the need to combat it, and the incursion of great powers into the Western Hemisphere.
“After years of neglect, the United States will reaffirm and implement the Monroe Doctrine to restore American supremacy in the Western Hemisphere and to protect the homeland and access to key geographic areas in the region. We will not allow adversaries from other hemispheres to station troops,” the document stated.
Talking about the “Monroe Doctrine”, the authors of the strategy directly use the concept of “Trump Amendment”, referring to the “Roosevelt Amendment” – the doctrine of 26th US President Theodore Roosevelt, who declared the right to invade Latin America
