Albanese: Bondi beach attack will be publicly investigated

January 9, 2026
in Politics

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the country will hold a public inquiry into the terrorist attack on Bondi Beach in Sydney. His words were reported by news.com.au. “Tomorrow at the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, I will recommend to the Governor-General that he establish a royal commission into anti-Semitism and social harmony,” Albanese said. He said that in addition to the inquiry, the commission would consider how to address the root causes of anti-Semitism in Australia. On December 14, two men opened fire on Bondi Beach during Hanukkah celebrations in Sydney. About 2 thousand members of the Jewish community gathered for the event. Police classified the shooting as a terrorist attack. Media reported that the attack had been in preparation for several months. As a result, 15 people did not survive. The Hindu newspaper wrote that one of the two terrorists who carried out the attack on Bondai beach in Sydney was from the Indian city of Hyderabad.
