AFP: France plans to ban social networks for children under 15 years old

January 1, 2026
in Politics

French authorities intend to introduce a ban on children under 15 years old from using social networks from the new school year, starting in September 2026, such a draft law has been sent to the country's parliament.

Discussion of the document in parliament is scheduled for early 2026, RIA Novosti reports with reference to France Presse

The document stipulates that from September 1, 2026, online platforms will be prohibited from providing social networking services to minors under 15 years old.

The first article of the bill transfers the authority to oversee the implementation of the ban to the national agency regulating audiovisual and digital media, Arcom. The second article aims to tighten restrictions on mobile phone use in schools.

Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to issue a ban on social network access for teenagers under 15-16 years old until the end of his term in 2027.

In Australia, they started blocking and deleting accounts of minors after introducing a ban on youth under 16 years old from using social networks.
