The most favorable areas for living in Moscow from an environmental point of view have been named

in Opinion

By the end of 2025, 14 districts of the city have the most favorable environmental conditions for life. The situation is best in Krasnopakhorsky, Metrogorodok, Bekasovo and Voronovo districts, and worst in Nizhny Novgorod, Western Degunino and Kapotnya regions. This is evidenced by the annual ecological ranking data of Moscow districts compiled by experts of the EcoStandard group.

The most favorable areas for living in Moscow from an environmental point of view have been named

Traditionally, analysts color an interactive map, on which each of the 132 counties receives its own color and environmental score. The districts were evaluated based on 13 parameters. In particular, the number of vehicles and roads, industrial areas, parks, water reservoirs, bicycle parking lots, sports fields, electric vehicle charging stations, soil quality and the condition of trash bins were taken into account. The ranking is based on data from the National Spatial Data System, mos.ru, Rosstat and Yandex.

Experts divide Moscow districts into five groups. 14 areas with “optimal environmental conditions” status (from 1 to 3 points) are marked in blue on the map. These include areas with large parks – Izmailovo, Krylatskoye, Orekhovo-Borisovo Northern, as well as those located in New Moscow and Zelenograd – Filimonkovsky, Troitsk, Silino. Krasnopakhorsky, Metrogorodok, Bekasovo and Voronovo districts received points indicating the most comfortable environment in the region. These areas have less traffic than others, less industrial pressure, more parks, and low population density.

32 districts are classified as areas with a favorable environmental situation (from 4 to 5 points) – Kuntsevo, Kryukovo, Vykhino-Zhulebino, Kosino-Ukhtomskoye, Brateevo, Lyublino and others. They are marked in yellow on the map.

Most areas have “acceptable environmental conditions.” This “orange” status was given to 57 districts (six to seven points) – Danilovsky, Novogireevo, Tsaritsyno, Sviblovo, Tagansky, Tverskoy, Airport, Yakimanka, Khamovniki, Zamoskvorechye and others. The map shows the environmental risks their residents may face – air pollution from petroleum products, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen oxides and other compounds.

The situation is best in Krasnopakhorsky, Metrogorodok, Bekasovo and Voronovo districts. There is little traffic and many parks

26 districts (eight to nine points) received a satisfactory ecological status with similar risks, for example: Savelovsky, Yuzhnoportovy, Tekstilshchiki, Ryazansky, Maryina Roshcha, Arbat, Sokol, Begovoy, Presnensky districts. They have almost no parks, high population density and congested roads.

The tense environmental situation, where there is high traffic congestion and active industrial facilities, according to the assessment, occurs only in three districts – Nizhny Novgorod, Western Degunino and Kapotnya.

Let me remind you that air quality in the city is monitored around the clock by automatic Mosekomonitoring monitoring stations. The local environmental monitoring system provides continuous monitoring of key characteristics of pollution emissions. We are talking about more than 50 enterprises operating under the control of the city surveillance system, including an oil refinery, thermal power facilities and waste incineration plants.
