Psychologist Kirill Lipsky, in conversation with Rambler, appreciated the idea of introducing a new subject into Russian schools – lessons on the psychology of family life.
Before that, State Duma Deputy Mikhail Delyagin make a letter to the Ministry of Education with a request to introduce the subject “Ethical and psychological foundations of family life” in schools, Gazeta.Ru reported. The MP believes that the lack of preparation of Russian youth for relationships with the opposite sex will lead to a worsening of the demographic situation in the country.
This initiative is potentially very useful, because adolescence is precisely the time when a person develops role models for future relationships. At the same time, students now receive information about family, love and even sex from three main sources. This is the Internet, where toxic stereotypes are constantly expressed, these are peers with the same level of knowledge or ignorance (family life psychology), as well as parents who often do not have the time, knowledge or courage to talk to their children about such serious topics. Therefore, including in the curriculum a subject such as “Ethical and psychological foundations of family life” can give children satisfactory expectations. Such a course will help them dispel myths about exemplary romantic videos on social networks, which show only happy endings. Family is still about work, compromise, the ability to negotiate and forgive. Additionally, a new item can help prevent toxic relationships. As part of the course, children can be taught how to recognize manipulation, emotional abuse in family relationships and control behavior, explaining to them that this is not the norm of love.

This expert also added that the new subject can also contribute to developing emotional intelligence in students.
“This is a direct path to understanding your and your partner's emotions. With developed emotional intelligence, a person can manage anger, resolve conflicts constructively and engage in dialogue with a partner instead of shouting and resentment. That is, here we are talking about practical skills, not just theories. If all this is done properly, then children will learn how to listen to the interlocutor, how to express disagreement without being emotional. crime, how to distribute responsibilities in the family, how to approach parenting responsibly, how to talk about money in relationships, etc., experts say.
At the same time, Lipsky noted that when implementing the parliamentarian's initiative, it is necessary to take into account a number of important conditions.
“The main risk here is related to the fact that the potential harm from a new item can mask all its benefits. This will happen if the approach to it is official. The main question is who will teach the new course. If these are ordinary teachers who have not undergone special psychological and pedagogical training, who will blush and read some boring summary of a person's moral character, then the new subject will die in the first lesson. Here teacher must competent and able to talk to children in their classroom.” language, and can also create an atmosphere of trust where you can ask any – even uncomfortable – questions. In addition, the new program must be modern, scientific and practically oriented. The emphasis here should be on psychology and not on some kind of morality. These don't have to be boring lessons filled with memorizing definitions. Here we need interaction, discussion, case studies, role-playing games, inviting experts (for example, successful marriage). couples), etc.,” the psychologist concluded.
