The height of the snow cover on Tuesday, January 13, in Moscow reached the 1942 record and amounted to 43 cm, only 6 cm below the maximum value, said Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center. About this write “National Assembly Report”.

Snow depth in the capital approaches the 1942 record

Vilfand recalls that 1942 was famous for its snowy winter, when the Red Army's counteroffensive began in December. Films showed Soviet soldiers stepping through waist-deep snow, counterattacking and driving the Germans from Moscow.

“This winter snowfall continued in January 1942. At VDNKh station today it was 43 cm. This is close to a record: 26 cm is the standard, 49 is the record value for this day and here it is 43”, the forecaster said.

According to him, in Kashira, the snow height is 44 cm, in Kolomna – 50, in Pavlovsky Posad – 48, in Serpukhov – 43 and in Cherusty – 54 cm.

Muscovites were warned about the anomaly in late January

Earlier it was reported that a fire broke out in an apartment in Shabolovka in Moscow. The teenager who was running away from the fire jumped out of the window and fell into a pile of snow.

Snow softens autumn considerably; Doctors hospitalized the student in one of the capital's clinics.
