Moscow has completed one of the most complex and important engineering programs in recent years – modernization underwater gas pipeline.
Sergei Sobyanin talked about this on his channel in MAX message.
“Work began in 2018 and includes 12 high- and medium-pressure siphons forming a system with a total length of about 9 km. On the eve of 2026, the reconstruction of the last facility, the Kropotkin gas pipeline, was completed,” the Mayor of Moscow said.
Dykes were placed in the capital in 1939–1965 under the Moscow, Yauza and other water barriers. When updating them, modern excavation-free technologies were used: gas pipelines were laid in tunnels on the river bottom at a depth of about 20 meters using micro-tunneling. This helps not to affect the reservoir ecosystem and increases the reliability of communication.
All rebuilt gas pipelines received three-layer containment shells and automatic shut-off devices. If necessary, the gas supply can be turned off remotely after one and a half minutes from the central control room mosagaza.
In addition, a new gas pipeline was built in less than a year “Shelepikhinsky”located on the bed of the Moscow River at a depth of about 20 meters. It increases the reliability of gas supply to the western part of the capital and creates additional reserves for residential and industrial development.
