In Moscow, almost two-thirds of the monthly rainfall may fall in less than two days, according to a notice from the press service of the city services complex on January 8.

Muscovites warned of blizzards and heavy snowfall

Heavy snow is expected in the capital from 9:00 p.m. on January 8 until January 9. Rainfall will be accompanied by snowstorms and wind speeds of up to 18 m/s. Forecasters predict new snowfall on the morning of January 10 could reach more than 30 centimeters.

Moscow Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov said: “Every few hours in the city, continuous mechanical sweeping work with de-icing treatment on roads and sidewalks will be carried out. During snow removal operations, we will use the necessary amount of special equipment and manual cleaning teams, and we will mobilize additional forces and equipment of city engineering companies.”

City authorities are asking people to be careful on the streets: do not hide under trees and do not park near them. Additionally, if possible, avoid traveling by personal vehicle during bad weather.
