According to him, January last year turned out to be two degrees colder than expected according to long-term observations, and precipitation decreased by 156% compared to the monthly norm.
Mikhail Leus, leading expert at the Phobos weather center, said that the current day, February 1, will be the coldest day in Moscow since the beginning of winter, the air temperature will be minus 17–19 degrees.
Forecaster of the Meteo-TV forecast center Alexander Ilyin noted that in the first half of the last ten days of February, warming may come to the capital region with air temperatures around 0 degrees and weak positive values.
“February is a winter month, the weather will change and warming will be replaced by the return of cold weather,” the meteorologist explained.
Scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, said that by the end of next week in the capital region, frosts will weaken and the temperature regime will change, but it is too early to talk about warming.
According to him, the current frost in the European part of Russia is due to “really cold air masses” carried by a strong cyclonic storm, as well as increased pressure, due to which additional radiation is released, which leads to cooling of the soil and freezing of the air layer above the ground.
