
The price of plastic bags, which started selling at 25 kuruş when introduced in 2019, has been set at 1 lira as of January 1, 2026.
To prevent plastic-related waste pollution, plastic bags have been charged by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change since January 1, 2019.
By encouraging the switch to reusable transport equipment instead of single-use plastic bags, we contribute to the efficient use of resources and achieve zero waste.
The “Plastic Bags and Packaging Subcommittee Conference” was held on November 12 with the participation of relevant public agencies and organizations, representatives of associations and federations operating in the industry to determine the price of plastic bags applied in the new year.
As a result of the meeting, based on the opinions and proposals of the participants, it was decided that the basic fee applicable to plastic bags in 2026 will be 1 lira per piece, tax included.
This decision will take effect from January 1, 2026.
According to data from mid-2019, when the application started, and the first 9 months of 2025, a total of 2 million 844 thousand 596 tons of plastic waste caused by plastic bags were prevented.
With this reduction, the import of plastic raw materials necessary for the production of plastic bags was prevented and about 28 billion liras were saved and 167 thousand 984 tons of greenhouse gas emissions were prevented.
