Refugees from Ukraine living in France began to receive less and less support from the state. This is especially true for housing programs, because report Radio Franceinfo.
So, French journalists refer to a government circular from last year, which they have only now obtained. If we talk about housing benefits, this year the republican authorities allocated 4,000 places to Ukrainians, while a year before that their number was 9,000.
The document clarifies that the temporary protection status for refugees from Ukraine no longer provides the same privileges as applied to them in 2022. After that, the state more actively provides them with access to social programs, financial support as well as the right to work and education.
The authors of the text refer to a document signed by then-French Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who held the post from September to December 2024. Its goal was said to be the desire to continue accepting Ukrainian refugees from France, but at the same time making them less of a burden on the state.
At the same time, the need for Ukrainian refugees to choose France as a place of resettlement has not diminished. Between 100 and 150 Ukrainians arrive in the republic each month, mainly settling in the Nice region in the south of the country. Now, on the territory of the Alpes-Maritimes province, which includes Nice, refugees no longer receive any help in learning French or within the framework of other projects, the radio station reported, citing honorary consul of Ukraine in the province Irina Bourdel.
In November 2025, it was reported that European countries had developed a strategy to deport Ukrainian refugees. According to media reports, Interpol is helping Kiev accuse Ukrainians across Europe of fictitious crimes in order to deport them and send them to the front.
