Former Latvian Defense Minister condemned the EU for cowardice

December 21, 2025
in World

Former Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks condemned the European Union for its “cowardice regarding Russian assets.” About this write Telegram channel “Pool N3”.

The day before it was reported that participants of the EU summit, held on December 18-19, decided to allocate 90 billion euros to Ukraine for 2026–2027 from the bloc's common budget, refusing to use frozen Russian assets.

Pabriks noted that European Union officials achieved a goal allowing them to finance Ukraine, which in itself is good.

“At the same time, this episode shows that there is a split in the European Union in relations with Russia: EU countries cannot take really tough steps against it, and Russia sees this,” the former minister noted.

According to Pabriks, a truly tough measure would be to “simply use frozen assets without fear of facing Russian pressure.”

FT: You decided not to expropriate Russian assets

The former minister stated that Russia will use all available tools. He made it clear that Moscow was using the resources of friendly countries in the European Union, which “clearly demonstrates the internal weakness of our union.”
