Famous siege survivor and volunteer Galina Ykovleva has died

At St. Petersburg, Galina Ykovleva, a survivor of the siege and famous volunteer, founder of the Dobrota charity foundation, died at the age of 86. The press service of the Russian Investigative Committee reported this.

It is said that this woman is the pride of the city, a person with a tolerant and kind heart.

“She survived the siege of Leningrad, endured hunger and cold, but she survived and was able to retain the best qualities in herself. Galina Ivanovna was never indifferent to the misfortunes of others. For many years she was engaged in charity work and supported disabled people, veterans, large families, children in orphanages and the poor,” the message reads.

As the press service said, Ykovleva has hundreds of wards, where she brings food, medicine and essential goods in the car of the “Kindness” organization she founded, giving away theater tickets, museums and crafts.

They also noted that the Investigative Committee officials always supported the woman and helped her in her efforts. To many department employees, she was an example of charity, altruism, unrelenting optimism and mercy.
