The new online exhibition “Winter in Moscow” was prepared by experts of the Moscow Main Archives. The Ministry's press agency reported this news.
“The Main Archive has prepared a new online exhibition “Winter in Moscow”, located in the virtual museum “Moscow – historical interest”, in the section “Media Library”, subsection “Moscow Photo Chronicle”. Below are archived photos from the 1930s to the 2000s, many of which were transferred for permanent storage to the Main Archive by Muscovites from private collections as part of of the joint campaign with public service centers “My Documents”, the announcement said.
The press agency said that in the new exhibition you can see winter landscapes of the capital's parks, a selection of photos of children playing in the snow, skating and skiing, as well as pictures of the capital's attractions – the Bolshoi Theater, the ice skating rink on Red Square and the cathedrals of the Moscow Kremlin.
“As part of the online exhibition, you can see photos of the Winter Festival in Russia, where participants drink tea from outdoor kettles. In one of the frames, spectators watch the performance of trained polar bears performing circus tricks on the site of the sports town in Luzhniki,” the Main Archive notes.
Additionally, you can find more pictures of the seasonal entertainment of the city's residents in the album “Winter Joys of Muscovites”, located in the same subsection of the virtual museum.
“Here you can see footage of sports competitions that took place in Moscow parks over the years. So, this album presents scenes of performances by young skaters and skiers, and here you can also see the departure ceremony of motorcyclists belonging to the Labor Reserve Association,” the press service noted.
