Their meeting took place in the summer of 2013 in Italy. Amal came to the actor's house on Lake Como as a guest of a mutual friend. George later said that he immediately felt interested in the stranger:

The couple lives between Los Angeles, London and their fateful villa on Lake Como, building a relationship based on mutual respect, care and love, not on ostentation.
Clooney has admitted more than once that it was Amal who changed his outlook on life. “With her, I become calmer and more mature. She is my best person in the world,” he said in a documentary interview with Netflix. In an interview with The Times, the actor added:
