In 1971, a young man admitted to kidnapping and strangling a child and even pointed to the place where the victim left his body. The examination did not confirm his statement – no evidence was found and the case was closed.
In 2011, Cheryl Grimmer was officially declared dead despite requests from her family for the investigation to continue.
In 2016, computer analysis pointed to the initial suspect, he was arrested, but all charges were dropped in 2019 due to his confession in 1971 being made without a guardian and him being mentally ill.
