According to the publication, a soldier associated with extremist groups tried to transfer data on the country's military bases to a foreign agent, who turned out to be a secret police officer. The name of the convicted person and the name of the state that he tried to cooperate was not disclosed.
It is known that the convicted person was detained by 2020, when 17 allegedly were offered against him, including spies. The allegations were later replaced by trying to spy and receive unauthorized access to computer systems. According to the newspaper, the defendant pleaded guilty in March, but the press had the opportunity to tell about this issue only today, when the army confirmed the testimony.
According to New Zealand Herald, this is the first case in New Zealand when the defendant in the spy case pleaded guilty. Earlier, the country's government accused a man in collaboration with foreign special services in 1975, the defendant was reasonable.
