Mikhail Leus, leading expert at the Phobos weather center, said on his Telegram channel that the snow cover in the capital region will melt earlier than the second ten days of April.
“Taking into account the height of the current snow cover (70 cm), we can assume that the snow cover melt this year will certainly be later than the long-term average date and most likely close to the latest date: I would assume that the snow in Moscow will melt in the second ten days of April and closer to the end of April,” the forecaster writes.
He noted that according to climate standards in Moscow in the 21st century, the average day for snow cover to melt is March 30.
At the same time, the latest time the snow cover disappeared was on April 16, 2012 and April 17, 2013. In 2012, at the end of February, the snow cover reached 39 cm, and by March it was 46 cm. In 2013, the snow cover at the end of February reached 40 cm, and in March it increased to 77 cm.
