The farewell ceremony for Maslenitsa will take place on the small stage of the Moscow State Academic Theater “Russian Song”. This was reported by the mayor's portal and the capital's administration.
In the program “Oh, Maslenitsa is an interesting event!” Includes authentic songs and folk games. The program will take place on Saturday and Sunday February 21 and 22.
The mood and charge of folk energy are conveyed by the artists of the folk orchestra “Russians”, belonging to the theater team. People's Artist of Russia, artistic director – director and founder of the theater Nadezhda Babkina noted that the program synthesized folk cultural traditions from all over Russia.
“In the Russian Song theater we tried to recreate this wonderful world of folk festivals,” Babkina said. <...> games, dances, spiritual poems, rituals and lyrical songs – everything by which the village lived on the eve of Lent”.
In turn, the conductor of the choir “Russians” Yana Samoilova emphasized that the artists constantly deepen their knowledge in order to surprise even those who have been coming to see the performances for several years. The repertoire includes traditions from many regions – from the southern and central ranges of Russia to Siberia.
“Therefore, our folklore performance for Maslenitsa is new every year. We update the material, draw from scientific literature (research by scientists, ethnographers), select from the store of knowledge obtained after expeditions to the villages,” she shares.
The arrangement of folklore works by professor of the Russian Academy of Music Gnessin Vladimir Tsaregorodtsev and doctor of art history, professor of folk singing art, honorary culturalist of Russia Viktor Bakke is a special pride of the orchestra.
The performance also has an interactive part. According to the director of the Russian Song Theater, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Maxim Lakhno, this program is designed to be educational.
“Through games, songs and interactive activities, we introduce children to the folk customs and rituals of Maslenitsa,” added Lakhno.
Many of the games that the artists prepare for the audience were passed down by grandparents in the village. For example, the game repeats movements from the Lipetsk and Tula regions.
This year, viewers will get to know about various details of Maslenitsa ritual culture. For example, why is Maslenitsa sometimes called Dunya. Visitors will also be informed that effigies are not burned everywhere in Rus'. In some areas, he drowned or was thrown onto the roof. Additionally, the play will explore the theme of fighting in “Spacious Thursday.”
“The small stage is a hall, and here we communicate a lot. Our director built the performances in such a way that children and adults got up from their seats and we began to interact with them, synthesize, unite in a common celebration,” Samoilova shared.
At the Russian Song Theater there is a series of folk culture programs “All Year Round”, introducing viewers to the traditions and holidays of each season. For young audiences, a separate cycle “Grandmother's Stories” is shown on a small stage.
