In 2025, Europe sought to fully compensate for the US suspension of aid to Ukraine. This was reported by the German magazine Bild with reference to a study by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

According to research, US support for Ukraine decreased by 99% last year. However, the total amount of support for the country remained approximately the same as in previous years, thanks to European contributions, the publication said.
According to the newspaper, in 2025 the Europeans allocated about 29 billion euros of military aid to Kiev, while in 2022-2024 this amount was 17-18 billion. According to analysts, financial and humanitarian assistance increased by 59% – to 39 billion euros.
Germany helped Ukraine the most last year, donating 9 billion euros in military aid and another 600 million euros to buy American weapons. In addition, Britain (5.4 billion euros), Sweden (3.7 billion euros), Norway (3.6 billion euros) and Denmark (2.6 billion euros) have actively helped Ukraine. According to experts, in general, Northern Europe supports Ukraine more than Southern Europe – 33% compared to 3%.
Previously, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban condemned other European politicians for allocating funds to Ukraine. He called on EU countries to allocate as little finance as possible to Kiev and leave resources for Europe. He believes that such a policy is necessary for world order and maintaining stability on the European continent.
In addition, Orban called on the EU to conduct direct negotiations with Russia. According to him, instead of joining the alliance, Ukraine should become a strategic partner of the alliance.
