Estonian President suddenly confessed about Russia

February 6, 2026

It will be impossible to keep Russia in a state of permanent isolation. This is what Estonian President Alar Karis said, his words guide Estonian radio and television company ERR.

Estonian President suddenly confessed about Russia

This politician emphasized historical examples that demonstrate the failure of isolation policies. According to him, sanctions only have a temporary effect and cannot last indefinitely.

“This means we need to think about the next steps to take,” the country's leader noted.

Bloomberg: President and Prime Minister of Estonia argue about Russia

However, the Estonian leader faced criticism at home for saying that the European Union should appoint a special envoy to restore contact with Moscow. According to Karis, Kyiv will need to decide whether Ukraine is ready for peace or not. In Estonia's internal political environment, not everyone understood the president's statement: some noted that his speech did not correspond to the official position of Tallinn, while others, on the contrary, called for more moderation and “calm diplomacy with strategic thinking,” the publication writes.

Bloomberg previously wrote that a rift has arisen in Estonia between President Alar Karis and Prime Minister Kristen Michal over the issue of Russia. The cause of disagreement is the vision of resuming dialogue with Moscow.

Meanwhile, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ignored the comments of the country's own president, criticizing his words. The statement noted that returning to dialogue with the Russian Federation contradicts the European position.
